Thus, the project aims to restore the ecosystem and biodiversity of the territory <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">of Schaerbeek Formation<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> that has known a constant industrialization since the building of the Brussels\u2019Canal, resulting into environmental ruptures, and soil pollution. The research behind the project asks a question:<span class=\\\"None\\\"> \u2018how <\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">c<\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">an we bridge and enable a place that is hostile to people and animals, considering its ecological, environmental and economical significance to the city?\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">The promenade is used in this project as a tool <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">for<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> stitching the fragments of the biodiversity. The existing \u2018Promenade <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">V<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">erte\u2019 travels Brussels, touching a series of green spaces and landscapes <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">but <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">avoids <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">this<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> site. The reason being<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">its industrial character<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> making it <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">inaccessible and hostile. <\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">A<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">iming to reconnect the biodiversity thus restoring the ecosystem, another main itinerary is suggested<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">: passing from the <span class=\\\"None\\\">Moeraske<\/span>, through this <span class=\\\"None\\\">industrial park<\/span>, taking advantage of the to-be-resurfaced S<span class=\\\"None\\\">enne <\/span>as part of the BKP, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">going over <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">the <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">C<\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">anal <\/span><\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">to<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the <span class=\\\"None\\\">Meudon <\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">P<\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">ark<\/span><\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">and <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">finally <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">rejoining its initial path. <\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">In order to understand deeply the ecosystem and biodiversity, an analysis of the soil, the flora, and fauna <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">has been done <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">through on-site soil <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">testings<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">and<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> inventory of the green spaces around. After underst<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">anding<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the why and<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">how of the current ecosystem, the restoration process consisted of identifying stepping stones on which the bridging would anchor on<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> :<\/span> <span lang=\\\"FR\\\">t<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">he Moersake, the \u2018<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">I<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">sland\u2019 (<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">abandoned<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> SNCB building), the Senne, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">t<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">he Canal, and the Me<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">u<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">d<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">o<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">n Park. <\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">From the <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">Moeraske, a path <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">reaches<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the \u2018<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">I<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">sland\u2019. <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">It<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> consist<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">s<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> of an urban park,<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> half green park and half covered<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> sports facilities<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> and<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> open spaces that could <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">host <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">cultural <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">events.<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> The \u2018<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">I<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">sland\u2019 is then <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">linked <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">to the Senne,<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">a transition in nature, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">with<\/span> <span lang=\\\"FR\\\">the <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">possibility to <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">reach<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the ground <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">alongside<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">C<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">anal docks<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">, <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">a green corridor<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">,<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> ending in an esplanade. The <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">C<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">anal\u2019s intervention comes with an observatory that offers the users a <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">new view<\/span> <span lang=\\\"FR\\\">of<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> this<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">landscape. Finally,<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">the path lands in Meudon Park, to continue <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">t<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">o the initial green promenade. This way, the fragmented biotopes, green spaces are enabled and connected, thus restoring the ecosystem of a once flourishing valley. <\/span><\/p>\",\r\n          \"align\": \"top\",\r\n Studio\u2019s work <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">focused <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">on the promenade in the 21st century city, not only on its leisure aspect, but also on its functional one. Thus, the project aims to restore the ecosystem and biodiversity of the territory <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">of Schaerbeek Formation<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> that has known a constant industrialization since the building of the Brussels\u2019Canal, resulting into environmental ruptures, and soil pollution. The research behind the project asks a question:<span class=\\\"None\\\"> \u2018how <\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">c<\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">an we bridge and enable a place that is hostile to people and animals, considering its ecological, environmental and economical significance to the city?\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">The promenade is used in this project as a tool <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">for<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> stitching the fragments of the biodiversity. The existing \u2018Promenade <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">V<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">erte\u2019 travels Brussels, touching a series of green spaces and landscapes <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">but <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">avoids <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">this<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> site. The reason being<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">its industrial character<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> making it <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">inaccessible and hostile. <\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">A<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">iming to reconnect the biodiversity thus restoring the ecosystem, another main itinerary is suggested<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">: passing from the <span class=\\\"None\\\">Moeraske<\/span>, through this <span class=\\\"None\\\">industrial park<\/span>, taking advantage of the to-be-resurfaced S<span class=\\\"None\\\">enne <\/span>as part of the BKP, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">going over <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">the <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">C<\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">anal <\/span><\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">to<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the <span class=\\\"None\\\">Meudon <\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">P<\/span><\/span><span class=\\\"None\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">ark<\/span><\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">and <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">finally <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">rejoining its initial path. <\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">In order to understand deeply the ecosystem and biodiversity, an analysis of the soil, the flora, and fauna <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">has been done <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">through on-site soil <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">testings<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">and<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> inventory of the green spaces around. After underst<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">anding<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the why and<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">how of the current ecosystem, the restoration process consisted of identifying stepping stones on which the bridging would anchor on<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> :<\/span> <span lang=\\\"FR\\\">t<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">he Moersake, the \u2018<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">I<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">sland\u2019 (<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">abandoned<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> SNCB building), the Senne, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">t<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">he Canal, and the Me<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">u<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">d<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">o<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">n Park. <\/span><\/p><p class=\\\"Body\\\"><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">From the <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">Moeraske, a path <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">reaches<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the \u2018<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">I<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">sland\u2019. <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">It<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> consist<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">s<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> of an urban park,<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> half green park and half covered<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> sports facilities<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\"> and<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> open spaces that could <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">host <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">cultural <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">events.<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> The \u2018<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">I<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">sland\u2019 is then <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">linked <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">to the Senne,<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">a transition in nature, <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">with<\/span> <span lang=\\\"FR\\\">the <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">possibility to <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">reach<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the ground <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">alongside<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> the <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">C<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">anal docks<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">, <\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">a green corridor<\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">,<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> ending in an esplanade. The <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">C<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">anal\u2019s intervention comes with an observatory that offers the users a <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">new view<\/span> <span lang=\\\"FR\\\">of<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\"> this<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">landscape. Finally,<\/span> <span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">the path lands in Meudon Park, to continue <\/span><span lang=\\\"FR\\\">t<\/span><span lang=\\\"EN-US\\\">o the initial green promenade.
